Associate in Science Degree in Diagnostic Medical Imaging (Associates)

City College of San Francisco

San Francisco, CA

The Associate Degree in Diagnostic Medical Imaging (DMI) provides
didactic and clinical education in the operation of radiographic and computerized equipment, performance of radiologic procedures, creating and processing of radiographs, radiation protection, and exposure to advanced imaging modalities. The radiologic technologist provides patient services using imaging equipment and assists radiologists or other physicians qualified to order and/or perform radiologic procedures. Primary duties include quality patient care while applying critical thinking and knowledge of sciences, positioning, radiation protection, and radiographic technique. Effective communication with patients, other health professionals, and the public is important. Additional duties may include management of images, manipulating radiologic software and hardware infrastructure, performing quality assurance procedures, and providing patient education relevant to specific imaging procedures.

The ARRT requires an Associate Degree as eligibility to sit for the ARRT board examination; therefore, the DMI program strongly urges all applicants who do not possess an Associate Degree or higher to complete all the general education requirements for the Associate of Science degree prior to applying for admission to the program.
